And the winner is....

The person who taught me about this amazing trick....

Is YOUR "Next Foodnetwork Star"

Congratulations Melissa...I will give you 2 things:
1.  You have come A LONG way from the first few episodes and I actually began to really like you and I hope you are successful!
2. You have some fantastic tips, many of which I have already tried, tested and think are great...keep 'em coming!

Double Angry....

They sent my girl home...Debbie...they sent her home...I'm so mad about that.  I would NEVER watch Jeffrey's show...ever! I think they made a HUGE mistake. They better not give the show to Jeffrey.  At this point all I have to say is "Go Melissa"!

Jamika went home...

no one is surprised. Even if the selection committee seems to not be the biggest fans of my girl Debbie right now...they still kept her.  Jamika has been on the chopping block for weeks and it was just her time to go!  Good luck top 3...to be honest, I probably won't really watch any of your shows!

Turn up the Miami heat.

On a side note...I think the challenge tonight of throwing a cocktail party was lame.  Mostly because if you are the chef, I don't think you should also have to be the server.  Real life cocktail parties that are this fancy would definitely have servers...I'm just saying.  So anyway, I wasn't totally impressed with Debbie tonight and her lack of team work...but she did have the best food...which is probably the only thing that saved her.  As for Michael, I am not entirely sad to see him go...his personality was a bit over the top for me, especially tonight, and the fact that he continues to say that he can't handle cameras well really, what are you on the show for anyway?! Jeffrey still bugs me and Jamika is kinda blah...but Melissa is really growing on me.  I am not sure if I could watch her show, but she does work her little tail off, make some pretty fancy things for a "home cook" and has some great tips...but I still really like Debbie and I think I would watch her...the preview for next week should be interesting since I saw Bobby tell them to take all of her asian ingredients away.

And Debbie is still safe!

Teddy walks the plank...

I am so glad that he is gone!!!

Sunday, June 21, 2009

Is that after you make someone sick, or what?

I am typically not a huge fan of Tyler Florence...love his recipes...but typically not his style on his cooking show....however, on tonight's show...I loved him.  He was in the grocery store while the contestants were shopping (on a budget) and they had to do a 30 second tv spot on budget shopping...and he had no quams on stopping them and telling them how not "awesome" they were.

And then came Ina...I love "The Barefoot Contessa"...and wish I could have dinner at her house.  I even recognized some of the "guests" at her table tonight from her own show.

Judgement time....I'm glad to hear that the judges watch video for the chefs cooking so they can see what they are really like...and how they really treat each other.

..."It was from a Paula Deen cookbook"...Eddie said that about his salad...Eddie admitted to the judges that he used a recipe from a chef on the network that he is trying to get a job at...Eddie...are you kidding me? Blaming Paula Deen for you making a bad salad...not a good idea.

Now Teddy is a big fat liar...he is trying to take credit for the meatloaf and not the dessert.  Ummm, first off...a lie...secondly...at Ina's table you told all the guests that the dessert was yours...you can't change your mind now.  And those tears don't work on anyone!

Winners: Jeffrey and Michael.  I'm fine with that...I don't mind them, but would never watch their shows.

Others that are safe: Debbie (hurray), Jamika, Melissa, Katie (lucky)...and now we are down to Teddy and Eddie.  Eddie has been in the bottom every time...but Teddy needs to go. But both of them need more respect for others...specifically women. Debbie said it best, "We got along so well and then he just punched me in the mouth"...

But Eddie gets sent home...whatever.  They should have sent Teddy home and then Eddie could be booted next 'cause he steals recipes from cookbooks, then slaughters them...then blames the writer of the recipe.  Of course, Teddy is just a big fat liar!

watching does make me a little hungry...

I'm very confused about this show...they have the pick of thousands of chefs/cooks/whoevers to be on this show...I would love to be on this show...but from all the people that enter...they choose this group?  There is only one in that group that I would actually watch on the Food Network: Debbie Lee

Let's look at the history of this show...this is the 5th season.  Season 1: Dan and Steve won...I saw their show once...holy cow was it BAD. America chose them...not a good choice...thank goodness their show is gone.  Then came Season 2: winner: Guy Fieri....America chose...good choice...I am not in love with his cooking show, but I do love "Diners, drive-ins, and dives"...He is great.  On Season 3...Amy Finley was the winner...again...not a good choice America...and NOT a good show...another cancellation.  I guess FN decided that 1 of 3 were not good enough results for America to continue picking the Next Food Network Star...so in Season 4...they made the choice for us and Aaron McCargo took the prize.  I cannot stand his show...or him really...but he is still on the air, so we shall see.

...and now we are at season 5 and the majority of the kids are not "tv worthy"...On tonight's episode Mama Melissa (my kinda experience...cooking for a family...although I don't really like her) was running behind on plating her food.  She had it all made, but appeared a bit frantic...so "knights in shining armor" Teddy and Brett stepped in to save the day....or help her plate her food.  Which I really don't think she needed...telling them what to do took longer then if she did it herself AND made her look more frantic.  Then in the elimination room...Brett TOTALLY throws Mama Melissa "under the bus" and basically claims that he and Teddy helped her complete her dishes...making it sound like they actually helped make her food.  It was not good...Brett was a total jerk about it...and his reward ELIMINATION!  Thank goodness!

I'm pretty much just going to watch each week to make sure that Debbie doesn't get eliminated!  And of course to watch Bobby Flay, 'cause I love him!

And the winner is...

Aaron McCargo Jr.
Congrats on winning your own cooking show!
(most people I spoke to wanted Aaron to win...he definitely was not my fav, however, this was not America's vote...the judges chose this year.  I am wondering if they left it out of America's hands because the previous winners no longer have shows.  Well, except for Guy Fieri.  Will see if the judges know what their doing.  Pretty sure I won't DVR his show, but I may catch it at times...)

A next food network star first...

Las Vegas take 2...

Down to the final 3 and the challenge...star in your own commercial and then prepare a buffet to feed a room full of Vegas headliners.  All the commercials were cheesy...but the buffets looked delicious.  I have a question...if the whole point of the food network is to appeal to those of us who sit home during the day with the boob tube on...and it is us TV fanatics that will be cooking this food, why don't they have your average everyday eater and stay at home mom's tasting and judging the food?  Judging panel, quit telling me what "the viewer at home" will want to watch and copy...let me decide already.  I think that I would be a highly qualified member of the judging panel...

So after the challenge...there was no elimination, kinda sad really, I like to see who gets voted off each week...oh well!  Guess have 3 in the final will work just fine!  Next Sunday they are back in NY for their final challenge.  From the previews it looks like they will do an actual cooking show in Rachel Ray's kitchen...should be interesting!  I am not sure who most of America is liking, but my fav is Lisa, mostly be default.  I don't like either Aaron or Adam...I wouldn't watch their shows, but I might tune in from time to time on Lisa's...even it if is too see what she is wearing and how she has accessorized!  Ohh the fun in cooking!

A sad Monday...

Dear TV Reality fans and readers of this site,

Today I had a very sad moment, well 2 actually. The first occurred when I realized it was Monday and I had forgotten to tape The Next Food Network Star. What? How? you ask...I know, it is crazy, really. For all of you DVR and Tivo users you may wonder how some one like myself (who watches way too much TV) could possibly make such a mistake, especially since both machines have the wonderful ability to be set up to record shows for the whole season. Well, my previous DVR was becoming a bit unreliable and as we didn't want to run into the same problem as AJ...we turned our DVR in for a newer one and I have yet to take the time to put all my shows into the season pass. Sunday night was the premiere of BB10 and in my excitement to get that show onto the new DVR's season pass, I forgot about TNFNS...I am truly sad, as I missed the final four in Vegas. I will be searching for a rerun so I can see the food competition, however, I have read that Kelsey (our little cougarette from BYU) has left the show. We are now down to Aaron, Adam and Lisa. I have decided that, although, Lisa annoyed me at first, she is now my fav to win.

My second sad moment of today was much worse then the first. It finally dawned on me that I will not only miss the viewing of SYTYCD...but I will also be unable to vote or watch the kick-off show. When I agreed to attend camp with the girl's in my ward, I did not realize the sacrifice I was making in my tvrealitycomp. I am completely devastated, as I had finally moved up in the standings. However, there have been voters in the past that have gotten perfect scores without even watching (AJ)...so I think I will pre-vote....Jo-Dan, you will need to tally the votes again this week! And hopefully I won't fall too far behind. (Bottom 6: Courtney, Jessica & Kherrington/Mark, Will, Gev.  Going home: Jessica & Mark)

So to all you fans out there in TV reality land...wish me luck as I spend the next 3 1/2 days without my reality TV...guess I will have a lot of catching up to do come Saturday night!

The next food network what?

I love the food network...I mean I REALLY love the food network...it is on my tv pretty much the entire day! I often make dinner from a recipe I see made on one of the shows that day. Bobby Flay is my fav...I love every one of his shows...and I cheer him on whenever he competes on Iron Chef America. I also love Barefoot contessa, Giada, and enjoy the food that Rachel Ray makes (not so much her). The majority of the "original" chefs I think are great.

Now...maybe I am the only one who watches the Next Food Network Star...but let me just say...I may be watching this competition, however, I am pretty sure that no matter who wins...I will not be watching their show. Seriously? These are my choices. They may know fancy food words, but not a single one could do a show. There have been 3 previous seasons of this show and let me just tell you, only 1 of the 3 is even still on the network. The first season 2 guys won as a team and have a show Party Line with The Hearty Boys, of course I have only ever seen one horrible episode, so I am not sure if they are even on. The second season Guy Fieri won...his cooking show is semi-lame, however, his diners, drive-ins and dives is a great show and I enjoy watching (mostly because I love diners and greasy food). Last year's winner was Amy Finley, who I also viewed one of her HORRIBLE shows. So really, I have absolutely no hope for this year's winner.

The other point that I would like to address, while I am talking food...there are a whole lot of new chefs on my network with really crappy shows, and I think, how did they get this job? And, they didn't have to go on TNFNS to get the job....and yet, their shows SUCK too!

A note to all you chefs out there....please stay off of my network unless you can not only cook, but remain uncheesy and annoying while you do it! And also...I don't care if you can cook the fanciest named foods in the world...you still don't have to act better then the rest of us wannabe Bobby Flays!
