American Idol---Week 5---the singing

Live from California (not really live...recorded) but from my bro's house in California....THIS IS American Idol! (Don't fear Jo-dan...I wouldn't miss this even if I am relaxing after a weekend in the sun).

songs from the year they were born...what would you be singing?...mine would probably be a BeeGees song...just looked at some top songs and it would be "your love has lifted me higher and higher".

Danny...1980: Stand by Me...He is wearing Cyndi Lauper Pink!  I think Paula looks at the Tuesday performance nights as free concerts...man does she get into this.  Then a shot of the camera crew walking off stage...nice!  I don't have anything really negative to say...I think a few notes were off...I just don't really enjoy this guy (but you all already know that).

Kris...1985: All she Wants to do is Dance...I just think that his voice is night and day better then Danny's.  I don't like when they stand among the crowd...but I do love him (maybe love is a bit strong)...I think he is terrific (can I get an AMEN Clayverter?). Okay...so overall, maybe not my fav of his...but I do think his voice is great.

Lil...1984: What's love got to do with it...is she trying to look like a street walker? So her voice was much better this week...but it was hard to get into it with her...guess the judges agree.  She gets slammed quite a bit each week!

Anoop...1986: True Colors....(I love this song)...I am actually enjoying this...I think I am an every other week Anoop fan. (My bro wants to know when Anoop's eyebrows are going to start singing back-up). Lil D just gave him a standing-o. Amen Simon!!!

Scott...missed his year: The Search is Over...where's the piano??? O no...I am actually going to have to listen to him sing.  I REALLY don't want to have to listen to this...WOW!!!! Paula was confused by Scott's "punk side"...what the?

Allison...1992: If you love me...I love this girl and her voice...nice work!!!!!!!

Matt...1985: Part-time lovers.  Please don't ever show those embarrassing videos...they are not not helpful to your voting public. Again...he has a good voice, but still not one of my fav.  A good job!

Adam....(I wished because it is running long they would just him completely) 1982: I already know that Simon gives him a standing-o so I am pretty pissed about that (thanks to my sis).  I'm sure you Adam fans are really enjoying this...I can't stand him, so it doesn't matter how he does.  And I know...he ain't going home.

Make sure you scroll down and read Jo-dan's comments...they made me crack up!

Leave your bottom 3 and who's going home in the comments.

Some quick comments--
FYI--I was having children during the eighties and was (still am) completely out of touch musically, so I didn't even get some of these songs.
Gokey--nice. He smiles like my Aunt Phyllis--it warms my heart.
Kris--what? I still love him.
Lil--Girlfriend, what was that?
Anoop--Again, what? "I was snotty, but that's not how I want to represent myself." Whatever...only child, UNC student--baby, you are just snotty. Own it. Don't be kissing up for votes.
Good song, though.
Scott--Oh my goodness. He has really got to go. (Even though I don't think he is going to go this week.) It is getting embarrassing, right?
Allison--Wonderful. I might have liked it better that Miss Bonnie's version. It hurts my heart to say that.
Matt--I just don't like Stevie Wonder or most of his stuff, but I thought Matt did a good job. Note to self--Burn the home movies now, so you cannot be shamed by them later. Our old hair-don'ts alone should make us burn all old photos.
Adam--wow, he is good. That last note seemed a little iffy, but maybe that was on purpose. I just watched the video on youtube, so maybe the quality was not so great, but did it really look like he was half-naked (and very white-legged) at the beginning of the song?

From MGoody (Marlene)

I never like it when the contestants sing the year they were born. Always makes me feel older than dirt.
I actually liked Danny for a change. I really liked the version of the song he did. Surprisingly I liked Kris too. He was better than usual. Maybe because there was so much action going on with the faster song, that I didn't have to watch his mouth so much. Well, Lil has the legs for a Tina Turner song but not the voice. She looked great. however. Anoop...I thought sounded really good, even with that green and white striped sweater vest. Scott definitely needs to go...I didn't understand the guitar with that song. Allison was great as usual, plus her outfit was much better this time. I didn't care for Matt...but I have never liked that Stevie Wonder song much. Adam was AWESOME!!! That boy can sing anything. Too bad some of you missed it. I was luckily watching it live so could see the whole performance and Simon's standing O.

So I'm terribly jealous about TT being in Cali. Here it's still snowy one day, hot the next. You'd think it was spring time or something :)

So, songs from the year you were born. I was alive and able to remember every year the contestants sang about. I don't think they had awesome song choices. Where are the songs we used to sit by the "boom box" waiting for so that we could push the record button and have our own copy of that song on a Maxell tape? Disappointing indeed.

This disappointment led me to check out the songs from the year I was born. What a great year for women and songs!
Here's a partial list of what I found:
The Way We Were, Barbra Streisand
The Loco-Motion, Grand Funk Railroad
Bennie And The Jets, Elton John
Time In A Bottle, Jim Croce
Annie's Song, John Denver
You're Sixteen, Ringo Starr
Top Of The World, Carpenters
The Joker, Steve Miller Band
Rikki Don't Lose That Number, Steely Dan
Mockingbird, Carly Simon
I Shot The Sherrif, Eric
Love Song, Anne Murray
Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me, Elton John
I'll Have To Say I Love You In A Song, Jim Croce
My Girl Bill, Jim Stafford
Wild Thing, Fancy
I Honestly Love You, Olivia Newton-John
Sunshine On My Shoulder, John Denver
Kung Fu Fighting, Carl Douglas
Lucy In the Sky With Diamonds, Elton John
Cat's in the Cradle, Harry Chapin
Sweet Home Alabama, Lynyrd Skynyrd
Piano Man, Billy Joel
Surfin' U.S.A., Beach Boys

Now tell me you didn't just hum a few bars of each of those great songs? I think I would have had to do Piano Man. Cliche? Yes. Fun? Totally.

So, here's my votes for tonight. First, I think BroncoFan is right on the money. He has some insight. But in effort not to steal his thoughts, here are my own. Bottom 3:
Allison (only in the bottom because her personality hasn't clicked with America, apparently. I LOVE her and from day one I have said she was my fav. But she will be in the bottom AGAIN.)
Scott (It's time)
Kris

Going home:
Scott

Thank you for letting me write a very long entry today!

Although I missed Adam's performance (the judges go on way too long), I wasn't really upset because he's definitely not my favorite. However, my husband copied the show right after AI, and thus I was able to see Adam's song (needless to say, my hubby didn't get to see the end of his show as a result). I wasn't overly thrilled about any of the performances, but I do think Allison did a terrific job. One of my all-time favorite songs is "All She Wants to do is Dance" by Don Henley, so I was excited to hear that Kris would be performing it, but I wasn't super excited about his rendition.
After much thought, I'm guessing the bottom 3 will be: Scott, Lil, and Anoop. Going home: Scott (too bad, so sad, because I like him.)

Blueroserider did not see the show and assures me (Jayhawkrunner)that if she saw the show regularly she would be "spot on" in her choices and would be higher in the standings. I trust that is true; she is sensitive.

Anyway, she is submitting the following votes (and is hooking up her TIVO as I write this, so she will not miss another show):
Bottom 3:
Scott
Lil
Anoop

Going home: Scott.

ok, you young wippersnappers! Your music does not even compare to the wonderful music of the late 40's and 50's like"Some Enchanted Evening" by Perri Como and Mule Train by Frankie Lane. Those were the days....
but, on to my professional opinion...
DANNY, LIL, ALLISON, NOOP, MATT ALL SOUNDED THE SAME. I FEEL BAD FOR SCOTT....HE TRIED TO MIX IT UP. AND ADAM WAS CUTE AS A LITTLE BOY, BUT NOT FEELING HIM YET....BUT I SUPPORT HIM BECAUSE MY DEAR DEAR FRIEND MARLENE LOVES HIM SO.AND SHE SUPPORTED ME DURING MY CLAYVERSION..... HOWEVER, MY KRIS WAS WONDERFUL TO LOOK AT BUT WASNT FEELING HIS SONG...BAD SONG CHOICE.

MY PICKS FOR THE WEEK ARE

LIL
ALLISON
SCOTT( WILL LEAVE)

NEVER EVER EVER KRIS, I SUPPORT HIM TO THE END(ME AND DALLIN)
DALLIN I AM VERY JEALOUS YOU ARE IN CALIFORNIA...BUT I AM LEAVING FOR BIG D TOMORROW..I AM EATING MY WAY THRU TEXAS... JUDY,KRISVERTED(FORMERLY CLAYVERTED)
